From Flip Phones to Disco Lights, AmCham Taiwan Parties Like It’s 2000

The 2025 American Ball transported guests straight back to the early 2000s, as more than 150 attendees gathered for a dazzling Y2K Prom celebration. Held at the Grand Hyatt Taipei on October 18, the event captured the glitz, color, and nostalgia of the millennium era, blending retro fun with a night of music, fine dining, and lively entertainment.

Guests were welcomed with glasses of Luc Belaire Gold sparkling wine and invited to strike a pose at a prom-themed photo booth decked with pastel lockers, glossy pink-and-white checkered floors, and playful Y2K props such as flip phones and boom boxes. They could also memorialize the evening in a 360° video station, perfectly capturing the night’s shimmer and shine.

The event opened with a high-energy dance performance by the ARS group to Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” setting the tone for an evening of throwback hits and pop-culture nostalgia. Masters of Ceremonies Tim Berge and Julia Bergström brought millennial flair to the stage, welcoming guests before inviting AmCham Taiwan President Carl Wegner and Chamber board members to offer a toast to partnership and community.

Grand Hyatt Taipei impressed with a four-course menu that fused fine dining with contemporary comfort. The meal featured truffle shrimp ravioli, pan-fried seabass with mustard cream sauce, roasted U.S. Angus beef tenderloin with port wine glaze, and a Y2K-themed butter apple compote with vanilla apple mousse, Jasmine cremeux, and cinnamon almond sponge. Vegetarian guests enjoyed an equally refined menu centered on truffle white bean velouté, mushroom tortellini, and cabbage rolls with green chili sauce, while a surprise late-night snack stand offered chimichangas, deep-fried hot dogs, and caramel popcorn to keep the party fueled well into the night.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a premium selection of beverages from wine and liquor sponsors Direct Wines, Pernod Ricard, and Sovereign Brands. Each table featured The Glenlivet 12 Years Old Rum & Bourbon Cask Selection Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Rex Mundi Blanc 2024, and Corsiero Nero Puglia 2021, while Luc Belaire Gold sparkling wine kept the atmosphere effervescent.

The 2025 American Ball was made possible by the generous support of numerous sponsors, including Grand Prize Sponsor United Airlines; Gold Sponsors Air Products San Fu, Delta Airlines, Invisalign, Philip Morris International, and Qualcomm; and Silver Sponsors Costco Wholesale Taiwan, Grand Hyatt Taipei, HSBC Bank, Netflix, Pfizer, and Uber. Their contributions helped make the evening an unforgettable celebration.
