Blending innovative technology with Taoyuan’s rich cultural and culinary identity.
Under Mayor Chang San-cheng’s vision of building a friendly smart city, the Taoyuan City Government continues to harness innovative technology to deliver more convenient and engaging experiences for residents. A key embodiment of this effort is the Taoyuan Hub One smart retail zone, located in the first-floor atrium of City Hall.
Launched with a revitalized look in late 2024, Hub One recently unveiled two new, eye-catching vending machines that add to its existing lineup of co-branded merchandise and fresh produce kiosks. The “Taste of Taoyuan” and “Tiangong General Store” smart vending machines integrate premium offerings from local brands, tourist factory products, and Hakka cultural goods. Together, they form a dynamic and intelligent retail platform that allows both residents and visitors to enjoy a convenient one-stop shopping experience that highlights the region’s unique flavors and cultural charm.
The “Taste of Taoyuan” vending machine stands out with a playful, nostalgic design that draws attention and invites curiosity. Curated by the Department of Economic Development, the machine features a wide array of snacks from well-known local brands. Whether one has a sweet tooth or prefers savory treats, the machine offers something for every palate.

What truly sets this machine apart is the creativity of local producers, who have infused their products with regional characteristics such as premium rice from Xinwu District, succulent peaches from Fuxing District, and the popular kumquat lemon drink commonly found in nearby night markets. These specialty items not only expand consumer choice but also deliver a taste of Taoyuan’s distinct identity with every bite.
To further promote Taoyuan’s rich Hakka heritage, the city’s Hakka Affairs Bureau and the Taoyuan Hakka Culture Foundation have jointly launched the “Tiangong General Store” vending machine under the theme “Tiangong Selects: Your Lifestyle Choice.” With its warm, minimalist design, the machine reflects the spirit of Hakka culture in every interaction.
The Tiangong vending machine offers a carefully curated selection of 15 Hakka-themed items, ranging from foods and daily necessities to creative cultural merchandise. More than just a convenient shopping option, it serves as a key platform for promoting Hakka culture and showcasing local craftsmanship.
The establishment of Taoyuan Hub One represents more than the convergence of smart technology and innovative marketing – it underscores the City Government’s commitment to promoting local brands and cultural assets. Whether highlighting iconic Taoyuan snacks or culturally rich Hakka goods, these intelligent vending machines act as an inviting gateway to the city’s vibrant charm.
Looking ahead, Taoyuan Hub One will continue introducing new products and engaging events, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the city’s evolving blend of tradition, innovation, and hospitality. Under Mayor Chang’s leadership, Taoyuan will remain a model smart city, driven by technological advancement and cultural pride.
